Growing Disciples in Community

The Servants of the Lord community started in 1986 as a group of men supporting each other in the Christian way of life. It has since grown into a community of families and single adults.

This is an ecumenical community committed to Christian unity by helping one another to live lives more fully for God and to bring others to Jesus in their way of life. The following are response from members on how the community has helped them to become the disciples that they are.

In one sentence, how does being in community help me live more fully for God and become missionary disciples of Christ?

• We are surrounded by role models of living for God.

• Community helps me because we guide each other ever more fully in the ways of Christ.

• Being in community fulfils God’s call to love God and his people; we find mutual support and encouragement in our life journey with Jesus.

• Community provides supportive relationships that will help me love Jesus and live fully for him.

• Community is a bulwark, a safe place to refresh and get strength to face the world and be reminded of what heaven is like, i.e living in the company of saints.

• Being in community helps to remind me to strive for heavenly and not earthly goals. As we open our lives and hearts to each other, we can remind and encourage one another to live our lives as God’s children.

• Being in a community helps me to experience encouragement and love to live my Christian life wherever in the world I am.

• Being in community keeps me accountable to a people who shares the same values as I do; providing the support to grow in my relationship with God.

• Being in community means experiencing the support, love, encouragement and joy that comes with journeying with fellow committed Christians, as well as seeking to bring others along with us, in our pilgrimage towards our eternal homeland.

• Community helps me live out the ecumenical aspect of the faith with fellow believers sharing a common mission to bring before non-believers the gospel message of salvation.

• Our community helps build our family’s relationship with the Lord – as we grow in love and service for each other, we share our blessings with others outside the community.

• Being in a community makes me feel surrounded by God’s miracles. No they are not invisible. Because I see you all around. And our/my mission is to share these miracles to others.
